Harp Chair Independent Production
Concept Design / Industrial Design / Development / Manufacturing Sourcing
Harp Chair is a near-indestructible outdoor lounge chair I designed & manufactured independently. Made from fully welded stainless steel and various finishing processes, it is intended to last upwards of 200 years and is the kind of "stoic luxury" object one buys once per lifetime. This is far more ecological in the long run than disposable furniture and questions our infatuation with trends and newness.
The chair's geometry was painstakingly developed over many revisions to arrive at a shape that is puristic yet surprisingly comfortable.
Each chair features 54 circular welds and is finished in a complex process that includes electropolishing and brushing at several stages.
Harp chair is intended to be left outdoors and to complement whatever arrangement it is featured in. Sculpture parks, public swimming pools and gardens are among the many possible places of use.
The chair stacks comfortably to a height of 4. Each piece weighs approximately 7kg, light enough to be moved around manually, but also heavy enough to prevent it being blown around by strong winds.
Special Edition: Marine Dandy. Custom-wrapped by highly-skiled artisans in the Philippines.
Colour motif based on traditional naval flags and 1970's sport fashion.
Attention to detail in transition areas of wrapping. Non-repeating pattern throughout.
